The Akton Polymer Mattress Overlays are made of 100% Akton Polymer, a pressure-relieving visco-elastic gel. These mattress overlays are used to cover the entire surface or isolated areas of an existing standard mattress. Hospitals and long-term care facilities use these gel mattress pads as a significant component in the prevention and treatment of decubitus ulcers. Akton Polymer will not migrate like gels, does not promote bacterial growth, and is ideal for multiple client use.
Akton Mattress Overlays are 5/8 inch thick to provide pressure and shear reduction and do not require pumps, electricity, or special training to use. The gel pads can be used under clients with existing decubitus ulcers and increase bed surface height by only 5/8 inch, allowing users to be able to transfer on and off the bed easily. The models are available with a hook and loop hitch used to secure one end of the overlay to the head of the bed. The hitch will reduce slippage when the bed is raised.
