One of the most celebrated events of the month has already begun, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a month long event held to inspire and encourage writers everywhere to write a novel. The goal is to complete a 50,000 word novel by the end of the month but even if the goal isn’t met, NaNoWriMo still provides inspiration and progress for the future. NaNoWriMo has an amazing community that brings everyone together to inspire, educate, and grow with. It’s loved by many writers across the nation, but unfortunately conditions such as carpal tunnel and arthritis can hinder this experience. If NaNoWriMo is something you might be interested in this year, check out some tips to overcome discomfort and pain in damaged hands.

Adapt, Adjust, and Overcome

Conditions like Arthritis, Carpel Tunnel, or other muscle/joint impairing diseases can often cause discomfort when participating in regular activities and in severe cases, can even prevent us from doing them. Typing or writing by hand for long periods of time can make anyone’s hands cramp up, but the pain and discomfort is much more severe for someone with chronic joint pain. Common ways to adjust include joint supports and splints, providing firm support and control. A pair of Arthritis Gloves can also prevent aches and pains with proper compression control, allowing for a more enjoyable experience with hobbies.

When participating in NaNoWriMo, the majority of the time is spent on typing. For slower, weaker, or unstable hands, a Type Aid can lessen pain and discomfort while offering a comfortable alternative. Other discomforts found in forearms and elbows can be remedied with proper padding placed between the aching joint and the table or other office aids for arthritis.

The idea of writing a 50,000 word novel in a month can be intimidating, but many people also use this month to write shorter stories or to work on other smaller projects. They call these guys the “nano rebels” and it’s okay to be a rebel sometimes. Don’t let pain, discomfort, or uncertainty hold you back from doing the things you love. Let us at the Wright Stuff make National Novel Writing Month more comfortable and pain free this year!
